Our Shining Star

Funny how time flies! Ryan is 3 months and a week old. (I never could get into that thing where parent’s count baby age in weeks.) Anyway, he’s doing so well, at 14 lbs and 9 oz he’s more than doubled his birth weight. After our doc appt on Friday both Bobby and my chests were puffed up with pride and happiness. Doc said that Ry is off the charts for weight and height and just right in head size. But the best news is that he’s advanced for his age. He’s doing all these cutey things that he shouldn’t be doing until he’s at least 4 months old, and we had to brag a little bit about what a good kiddly he’s been.

Ry is just a joy of a baby, and Bobby and I are blessed to have such a good kid. I’ve heard some stories, and we are lucky, lucky lucky! Not to mention my dad always has to mention that I had colic as a baby and what a nightmare that was for them. But baby Ry is so responsive and happy, he started cooing and gurgling happy noises about two weeks ago so that if you catch him during his “prime time” he will laugh and smile back at you and make a couple of his favorite sounds: Ghaooooooooo or Hayhiiiiiiii, cccccccccccccccc, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Oh gosh, it’s the best feeling in the world to see his eyes sparkling up at you, mouth wide open and little arms doing a little chicken dance.

My mother in law calls this time the honeymoon period. From 3 - 7 months she says are the best because the baby does stuff, but not too much stuff. He can play with you, but still sleeps a good amount. He moves his arms and legs but isn’t trying to crawl over everything everywhere. He likes other people and isn’t afraid to hang out with grandma and grandpa or assorted uncles and aunts. And the sleep thing is getting better. He only gets up once a night and is pretty content to eat and go back to sleep. The mornings are the hardest for me, especially Monday mornings since we snuggle up and feed at 5 or 6 am, and then I have to haul my butt to work.

It’s amazing to see how much you learn and grow as a parent in three little months. Talking with our friend who just had a baby and is coming out of that first month fog, made me remember how hard every single one of those days were. And that’s with a good baby! But it gets easier and funner!

Anyway - just a little note since I haven’t blogged in a while. Too busy hanging out with the kid!
